SE1 Life

No doubt about it, Bermondsey is booming. In very recent years, it has become one of London’s ultra-trendy residential areas, making
an amazing transition from industrial quarter to urban chic.

Its main artery is Bermondsey Street, just a few minutes’ walk from London Square Bermondsey. This is an almost 24/7 thoroughfare of thronged bars, restaurants, art galleries, and intriguing small shops, many housed in re-purposed industrial buildings. The area’s amazing diversity is celebrated in colourful style at the annual Bermondsey Street Festival.

Bermondsey has plenty to please the crowds, but its location has excellent advantages for commuters too. London Bridge and the City can be reached on foot or by bike, and Jubilee Line links from Bermondsey station mean that nowhere in London is very far away.

Open air life

In London you are never far from open space, whether it’s a hidden away garden square or a major park. The capital is famous for its vast public parks: Hyde Park, the Regent’s Park, Battersea Park, Green Park, Kensington Gardens, and the much newer Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.

Bermondsey has its share of open space too. Just around the corner from London Square Bermondsey is the newly regenerated Bermondsey Spa Gardens, where the attractions include a playground, games area and picnic grounds. Other green pockets in the area include Tabard Gardens and Leathermarket Gardens. Just over a mile away, Southwark Park is considerably larger than all of them at 61 acres, and with its bandstand, a boating lake, rose gardens and tennis courts, a true ‘people’s park’.
