Dennis Fitzpatrick was looking to move from Windsor closer to London where he works. Living near the Thames was top of the list as he is a keen rower. Staines-upon-Thames ticked all the boxes with its excellent road and rail links to the capital and a thriving rowing club.
The 50-year-old university lecturer bought a one bedroom apartment with a south facing balcony at London Square Staines Upon Thames close to the town centre and a short walk to the river.
I have been rowing for over five years and enjoy sculling. I was delighted to find out that the Staines Boat Club has a recreational squad that rows for leisure as well as a Masters squad. It’s a very friendly club with great rowers. You can't beat being by the river, walking along the Thames and stopping at the Mercure Hotel or The Swan for a drink. It's thirsty work!
Travelling to work from Staines is easier and cheaper. The train station is less than 10 minutes walk from London Square and has good train links to places such as London, Reading, Richmond and Windsor.
The layout of my apartment is very good, the floor to ceiling windows make it very light and the balcony doors slide right back opening up the space. Everything has been designed with quality in mind.
The flat is very easy to look after and there is a really good recycling area. The 24-hour concierge has been great for taking in parcels. The town centre is practically next door to London Square and there are the big name stores in town with loads of coffee shops and restaurants. The Staines Food Court is worth a visit. There is so much to see and do in the surrounding area.
