Putney earns strong reputation as heartland for London’s young professionals

Traditionally categorised as a firm favourite for family buyers, Putney in South-West London is becoming re-defined as one of the most sought-after postcodes by the capital’s population of successful young professionals. With much of Upper Richmond Road being re-developed, contemporary apartments are being purchased by this demographic, who appreciate not only the quality of the property but also the area’s excellent transport links and vibrant lifestyle.

Edward Hancock, 32, and wife Rose, 24, exemplify the new wave of young professionals moving into the area. Currently living in Putney Hill, the couple are due to move into a two-bedroom sixth floor apartment at London Square Putney. The couple were keen to stay in Putney because of its fantastic transport links – Rose is able to get to her office in The City in less than 45 minutes and Edward has a commute of just 15 minutes to his workplace in Richmond. As a young couple with an active social life, they also can appreciate the convenience of having some of the area’s most vibrant bars and restaurants on their doorstep.

Putney is one of the only places in London which benefits from both a tube and mainline train station – which makes it possible to get almost anywhere in London in 45 minutes or less. We love the fact that we don’t have to cross the river to travel further into South West London, a journey I make on a day to day basis, as this massively cuts down on the commute and the boat terminal, which is served by the TfL river bus, means that my wife can travel into The City on the river during the summer months. In terms of leisure opportunities, we are completely spoilt by being close to both Richmond Park and Wimbledon Village as well as having Putney’s excellent restaurants and bars on our doorstep.

We both live very busy lives and so a contemporary property, which we can move into without having to do any work, is perfect for our current situation. Parking is something that is completely essential for us and we have rejected other properties in the past on this basis. We need a car to travel to see family at the weekends and, as a keen golf player, being able to park close to home is a must.
