The two-acre site, in Farm Lane, Fulham, SW6, is a former rundown light industrial trading estate, once used as stables for horse buses and in later days, cabs. London Square acquired the site in 2010 and now has planning permission granted by the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham. London Square will be retaining and restoring the locally listed ornate Edwardian arched entrance and railings to Farm Lane, currently in a poor state of repair. Beyond the grand entrance, an impressive urban square will be created, with terraced townhouses on three sides designed as a contemporary interpretation of Georgian proportions. The square will be traffic-free, with communal gardens at its heart to design attractive green space for residents. Award-winning Assael Architecture has been appointed to deliver 40 new townhouses with private gardens and terraces, reflecting the tradition of one of the capital’s most coveted architectural styles. The townhouses will be a contemporary interpretation of Georgian architectural style, using a palette of materials including stone and brick , with dormer windows and set back terraces, deep-set windows and large entrance doors, creating a sense of grandeur. The symmetrical square will have terraces and landscaped lawns, with paths and trees, providing a focal point for the community in the square, with parking provided in underground private garages. Adam Lawrence, Chief Executive of London Square, said: “We are creating a new square for London, continuing the legacy of the capital and its historic squares. Our inspiration came from Wellington Square, just off the King’s Road in Chelsea. Assael’s design reflects the proportions of the garden square, with its four-storey terraced houses. “Farm Lane will combine the very best features of the classic London square with modern design, contemporary interiors and first-class specification. The mix of townhouses, green space and pedestrianised square will create a great community for families and young professionals.” London Square will start on site in late summer 2012. Less than two years after its launch, London Square now has seven sites in the capital, a talented, highly experienced team, a bespoke company HQ and a development pipeline worth £335 million, delivering 500+ homes. The first site in prime Wimbledon Village launches this month (May 2012) – 10 houses priced from £2.5 million to £4.4 million. The distinctive London Square hoardings are also in place in Leonard Street, Shoreditch, with 45 apartments and 19,000 sq ft of commercial space. Also in the pipeline are Upper Richmond Road, Putney, a mix of 68 homes with commercial space, plus sites at Ruislip, Hornsey and Mill Hill. London Square also advised on the acquisition of St John’s Wood Barracks. http://www.constructionenquirer.com/2012/04/13/london-square-wins-planning-for-100m-hew-homes-job/ http://www.property-magazine.eu/london-square-creates-100-million-new-square-for-fulham-20600.html http://www.fulhamchronicle.co.uk/fulham-and-hammersmith-news/local-fulham-and-hammersmith-news/2012/04/18/farm-lane-to-be-transformed-into-100m-square-82029-30787543/
