Award winning residential developer London Square teamed up with Field End Infant School in Eastcote to take part in International Walk To School Day on 8 October.
London Square provided pupils of Field End Infant School with high-vis jackets, as well as educational packs, including travel diaries and fun badges to encourage them to walk to school on the day and throughout October. London Square was also on hand at designated ‘walk stops’ to greet the children on their way to school.
Walk To School Month sees primary school pupils from across the UK join forces with children in more than 40 countries worldwide to celebrate the benefits of walking to school. Despite the average distance to a pupil's primary school being just one mile, last year saw a drop of 300,000 pupils walking to school in England according to analysis of latest Government figures. Doctors recommend that children should get a minimum of 60 minutes of physical activity every day.
Rebecca Littler, Sales & Marketing Director of London Square, said: “A large number of our developments are located within close proximity to schools so we are delighted to be supporting Walk To School Month this year. By offering pupils at Field End Infant School a helping hand, the children will be encouraged to walk to school and can stay safe. Walking to school is a great way to encourage fitness and health amongst youngsters and we are proud to be facilitating this behaviour.”
Dorothy Chappell, Headteacher at Field End Infant School, which is located near to London Square Eastcote on Field End Road, said: "We strive to encourage children to walk to school throughout the year as we believe the benefits are invaluable to our pupils. We are very grateful for London Square’s support. It was wonderful to see so many pupils gathering together to participate in International Walk To School Day and we are confident that this enthusiasm will continue throughout the rest of Walk To School Month."
