London squares have an enduring mystical appeal and a new one is being built in Teddington. Don’t miss out, urges Fiona Adams. If you are a fan of the film Notting Hill, you will be familiar with the scene when Hugh Grant and Julia Roberts hitch themselves over a wrought-iron gate into the private, and therefore, secret garden of a London square, to which - as non-residents - they are not allowed access. Later, as the movie draws to a close, you see them sat happily on a bench in the same square enjoying the peace as bonafide dwellers. If this kind of outside idyll appeals to you, then London Square, the new development in Teddington, is worth a look. Situated on Waldegrave Road, a stone’s throw from the shops, services and restaurants of Broad Street and the High Street, the site, which is still under construction, will feature 18 four-bedroom houses and eight one-, two- and three- bedroom apartments, all sited around a central, landscaped square. No vehicles will blight the greenery or outside space as underground parking areas have been factored in. The London Square company takes its name from the ethos of London’s famous squares (such as the one in Notting Hill) and was inspired by the sense of community that comes with them. The range of accommodation - divided between apartments and larger homes - is to encourage a range of homebuyers, including families, couples and young professionals. A similar development has already been built in Fulham and sold very successfully. All of the apartments are designed around an open-plan kitchen and living space, so that entertaining is easy and inclusive. All two-bedroom properties boast two bathrooms and the three-bedroom units have three. Most apartments above the ground floor have balconies. Naturally they are finished to a stylish degree with integrated kitchen units, under floor heating and sleek, contemporary sanitaryware. The houses come in a number of designs but offer ample family living space in a townhouse style. All have four bedrooms and three bathrooms; some come with a dressing area for the master suite. A few of the houses comprise communal areas arranged over two floors with separate kitchen and living spaces, while others combine the two as per the apartments. Some houses have designated study areas, while others have utilities. All benefit from the same degree of style finish. Apartments and houses are now available to buy off plan. Prices from £545,000 for apartments and from £1,325,000 for houses. Tel: 0333 666 2434 Click here to read ‘The Richmond Magazine’ April 2015
