London Square are delighted to be delivering the new St Michael's Square, Croydon.
This public square forms part of London Square Croydon's brand-new development of 240 new homes and commercial spaces, creating a new gateway to Croydon Town Centre.
Earlier this year, we launched 'St Michael's Square Public Art Brief' with a view to commission an artist or artist collective to create a piece of public art that explores the theme of community and belonging. The chosen artwork would become a centre piece for the square.
The top-two scoring projects have now been shortlisted based on the following criteria:
- The quality of artist's work to date - concept and realisation.
-The Artist's experience of, or interest in, working in the public realm.
-The Artist's interest in collaboration or ability to work as part of a team.
-The Artist's experience of community engagement and strategy proposed and involvement with a/the local art community.
-A programme of events curated by the artist and/or partners in coordination with the Council's Culture Team.
-The Appropriateness of proposal to site and neighbourhood.
-The Scope for community involvement or educational projects.
-Financial viability - value for money, achievable.
-Proof of relevant insurances and qualifications.
-Technical viability - longevity or resilience of materials.
-Environmental sustainability: and Potential to help the commissioner meet their aims and objectives - design, environment, community regeneration and profile
