Neda Haghshenas, Social Sustainability & Community Manager at London Square facilitated a sustainability workshop at the University of East London Career Insights Day for Y10 pupils from Willowfield School in Waltham Forest and Hornchurch High in Essex. The event was organised through London Careers Hubs which connects schools and colleges with employers so that young people are aware of the career pathways and opportunities available to them.
This is the first time London Square has worked in partnership with UEL's schools and colleges outreach team to deliver an inspiring insight event which delves into the world of house building. Through the Career Insights Day, we showcased our commitment to sustainability by presenting students with a business challenge to solve. Students worked in teams to become consultants for a fictional client, London Square Hotels - a large hotel company, looking to reduce the impact of their business on the environment and save costs in the long term. Students were tasked with developing a sustainability strategy and coming up with recommendations on how the hotel could become more sustainable. Students then pitched their ideas to the client to win the bid.
Neda Haghshenas, said: "I've been so impressed with how students stepped up to our sustainability challenge and confidently presented their ideas during the final pitch. It's encouraging to see that students are environmentally conscious and care passionately about important issues such as food waste, pollution and climate change. I hope the session enabled students to develop key skills necessary for the world of work through collaboration and teamwork. Thank you to Tariq Patel at UEL and Chrisoulla Spyridonos at Local London Careers Hub East for organising a successful event."
