Linsey Skepper, founder and creative director of Muchmore Design, reveals how interior design can bring a new home to life and encourage buyers to visualise the lifestyle they could own.
Two new duplex show homes were styled by interior architecture specialists Muchmore Design at London Square Bermondsey, a new neighbourhood in the heart of the capital’s coolest district, which echoes the area’s rich industrial past in converted and restored heritage buildings alongside striking new build.
Jo McDonagh, Group Sales and Marketing Director, London Square, said: “We use the very best interior designers to create truly memorable show homes that connect with our buyers – demonstrated by the fact that both duplexes at Bermondsey sold as soon as they were launched.”
The duplexes are part of a collection of two and three bedroom homes with the look and feel of a house, featuring a ground floor and first floor and own private front door, bespoke interior detailing with the highest specification and latest technology, plus outdoor private terraces, and set in a landscaped residents’ square, with a gym, concierge and private underground parking.
Linsey commented: “When we were approached by London Square to design the duplex show homes at The Tannery, London Square Bermondsey, the team were delighted to have the opportunity to design the interiors for such inspiring homes, with an abundance of space and potential.
“Although generous space is a great selling point, understandably buyers often find it hard to visualise how a living area might work for their family, or how much floorspace a bedroom would offer once furniture is in place. With this in mind, one of our primary goals was to demonstrate how the different areas within the duplexes could function for family living. We did this through considered pieces such as reading chairs and study desks to help zone the open plan living area. Paired with thoughtful styling such as accessories, soft furnishings, and stationery, we added authenticity to the show home and allows buyers see how they could live in the space. The intent for both duplexes was to create a relaxed “lived in” scheme for buyers to feel at home, allowing them to easily envisage themselves within the space. Calming, serenity and tranquillity were all adjectives supporting the concept.
“To emphasise the space on offer, we used consistent colours and finishes throughout the duplex, making each area feel connected and spacious. High quality finishes such as brass and marble feature throughout the rooms, giving coherence and a luxe aesthetic.
“Several bespoke pieces also exhibit the adaptability of the duplexes, which aim to inspire buyers and help them think about how they could add value or functionality to their new property.
“Another important factor was to reflect the stylish, vibrant location that potential buyers would be buying into. This was done through sourcing local produce and consumables to highlight some of the local businesses on the developments door step.”
Wendy Lam, who purchased one of the duplexes and now lives there, commented: “The interior design of the show home helped me to visualise how I would decorate my own home and it gave me the confidence and influenced me in the choice of styling, colours and layout. I loved the idea that The Tannery had 24/7 concierge and was in a prime location which is convenient yet quiet.”
A final three bedroom duplex is now available, priced at £1,340,000. Call London Square on 0333 666 4343 to make an appointment to view.
