Energy bills from £27 a month: new London homes target cost-of-living pressures
London Square has launched a collection of Energy Smart three-bedroom townhouses in Twickenham, with forecast energy bills from just £27 per month; a 80% discount compared to the current UK average of approximately £137 per month.
The homes form part of the developer’s Twickenham Square scheme in south-west London and are designed to significantly reduce running costs at a time when affordability is a key concern for buyers.
According to recent research, more than 40% of prospective home buyers say a low EPC is a “very important” consideration when purchasing a home, placing energy efficiency on a par with public transport links (40%) and green space (41%).
The Energy Smart homes use a combination of enhanced insulation, airtight construction and low-carbon technologies to minimise energy use. The properties are up to 15 times more airtight than a typical second-hand home, helping to retain heat, reduce draughts and improve sound insulation.
The houses also feature wastewater heat recovery, reusing heat from showers, while rainwater harvesting helps reduce mains water use and lowers utility overheads further. Low carbon tech is also leveraged throughout the wider development including photovoltaic solar panels and air source heat pumps.
“With increasing uncertainty over costs, the energy efficiency of a home has moved from a niche consideration to a key factor in buying decisions. This is not just about utility bills, buyers are also concerned about future retrofit costs and resale risk.
“These homes show how design and technology can significantly reduce running costs for families. In a location like Twickenham, where much of the housing stock is older, the difference can be significant.”
“We are already seeing strong demand for these homes, with just five remaining.”
Prices for the remaining townhouses start from £1,405,000.
Designed around a beautifully landscaped garden, Twickenham Square also features
one, two and three bedroom apartments and three and four bedroom townhouses with private gardens.
Twickenham, ranked in the top five in the Sunday Times Best Places to Live in 2025, is located close to a wide stretch of the Thames close to Richmond, Strawberry Hill and Teddington. Twickenham Square is a nine-minute walk to Twickenham station with fast trains to London Waterloo taking 20 minutes. The area has excellent schools at all levels, a good mix of cafes, restaurants and pubs, supermarkets and is close to Twickenham Stadium, home to England Rugby.
The area has outstanding green space, including Marble Hill House, thousands of acres of Royal parkland at nearby Richmond Park and Bushy Park for walking, cycling and riding.
