Exploring the Watford Neighbourhood

14 Jul 22

Welcome to Watford

Watford is a town which punches above its weight. From a thriving town centre with fantastic shopping, nightlife and restaurants, to theaters and award-winning parks, there's something for everyone.

Plus, Watford was recently named the number one commuter location according to Zoopla. Read on to discover our guide to what to do and where to go in Hertfordshire's largest town.

Day-time activities

If you're looking for something different, Watford is home to the one and only Warner Bros. Studio Tour London. One for both children and adults alike, the theme park offers the chance to experience the magic of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, explore iconic sets and discover what it took to bring J. K. Rowling's films to life.

Evening Entertainment
For evening entertainment, Watford Palace Theatre, a beautiful 600-seat Edwardian theater offers inclusive drama, new plays, musicals, dance, and family shows. At Christmas, the Palace is renowned for its pantomime, which has shown every year since 1908.

Sports and leisure
Watford is also home to three leisure facilities, including Watford Central Leisure Centre and Woodside Leisure Centre, which both offer a wide variety of classes, from Zumba to Pilates, while at Village Gym Watford, you can enjoy top notch gym equipment, an indoor, heated swimming pool, relaxing sauna, steam room and whirlpool.

If you're looking for more sports, West Herts Golf Club, boasting 100 years of golfing tradition, offers 18 holes surrounded by stunning woodland. Or, Aldenham Golf and Country Club, has a beautiful, 18 hole tree parkland course that boasts scenic views over the Hertfordshire countryside.

A taste of everything
Watford is home to an array of truly unique independent restaurants. From Turkish cuisine with a modern twist at Opuz to Instagram famous The Florist which is renowned for sparkling cocktails, brunch boards and floral wall. If you’re looking for a local bakery, Flourish offers an array of pastries, traybakes, cakes, savouries and bread.

If you're looking for something for picky eaters, JCR Global Buffet serves food from all around the world, in one giant buffet. Or, for fine dining, you can head to one of the five restaurants at The Grove.

Plus, the local pub (and beer garden) at Tudor Arms, is just a 15-minute walk away from our apartments at London Square Watford.

Shop 'til you drop
Watford plays host to some of the most recognisable shops which are mainly located in the popular Atria (formerly Intu) shopping centre. With top-name brands such as Uniqlo, Zara, Lakeland and Flannels, there are plenty of options for a spot of retail therapy.

Looking for something more local? The town's bustling market is open from Tuesday to Saturday and has a wealth of food, fashion and beauty sellers.

Green spaces galore

For the sixth year running, Watford's green spaces have been granted more Green Flag awards than anywhere else in Hertfordshire. Whether you crave the outdoors for your morning run, or a picnic in the park with friends, Watford has an array of stunning natural landscapes.

Cassiobury Park is the jewel in Watford's crown. With a state of the art paddling pool, a booming bandstand and a packed programme of activities all year round, it's a great day out for the whole family.

Staging connected

Watford was awarded London's top commuter location in 2020 thanks to its excellent connectivity to different parts of London.

From Watford Junction, you can get a direct service to central London and beyond. The fastest West Midlands trains from Watford Junction take just 19-minutes to reach London Euston. Or, you can get the Metropolitan line from Watford underground station, to travel to Wembley Park, Farringdon, Baker Street or Aldgate within an hour.

Due to its location close to the M1 and M25, you can also drive to Heathrow or Luton airports in about 25 minutes.

Are you looking for a home in Watford?
