Homes for Wandsworth and London Square agree second affordable homes partnership
In the latest boost to the number of new council homes for local people, Wandsworth Council is working with London Square to deliver 24 new homes for social rent in a new development near to Battersea Park, London.
The acquisition of 1-, 2- and 3-bed homes sits within a major design‑led riverside regeneration scheme, Ransome’s Wharf, comprising 118 new homes across five buildings, set within landscaped gardens and high-quality public realm.
As part of the agreement, the Council is converting 10 shared ownership homes into new social rent homes, ensuring more families can access secure, long‑term accommodation at the most affordable rent levels.
Homes for Wandsworth and London Square have previously collaborated on supported living homes at the developer’s Wandsworth Common development. As part of a 253 home scheme on the site of the former Springfield University Hospital, these homes help vulnerable adults to live independently.
Aydin Dikerdem, Cabinet Member for Housing, said: “We’re securing high‑quality council homes in a prime riverside location and ensuring that regeneration directly serves the community. Through Homes for Wandsworth, we’re using every tool available, including innovative collaborations like this one and our recent partnership with Battersea Power Station, to deliver the homes our residents need. These new council homes at Ransome’s Wharf are another important step in tackling the housing crisis and building thriving neighbourhoods where local people can put down roots.”
Adam Lawrence, CEO, London Square commented: “Over the last 16 years we’ve built a track record of delivering high quality affordable housing across London and for building long lasting partnerships. I’m pleased to have completed our second collaboration with Homes for Wandsworth, which has enabled an increase in the number of social rent homes at Ransome’s Wharf and supports the Council’s ambitions for its residents.”
This agreement reflects the same partnership-led approach the Council has taken on its recently announced collaboration with Battersea Power Station to deliver 200 new high‑quality council homes as part of the wider riverside development.
Homes for Wandsworth is one of London’s most ambitious council homebuilding initiatives, designed to tackle housing shortages and support thriving, inclusive communities. Each new home represents a family moved off waiting lists and into secure, comfortable tenancies. The programme is on track to build more than 1,000 new homes by 2029.
Through this latest acquisition at Ransome’s Wharf, the Council is ensuring that local residents directly benefit from regeneration in one of the borough’s most desirable and well-connected locations.
