Award-winning residential developer London Square teamed up with The Falcons School for Girls in Putney on 6 October to take part in International Walk to School Month. London Square provided pupils of The Falcons School for Girls with high-vis jackets, as well as educational packs, including travel diaries and fun badges to encourage them to walk to school throughout October. International Walk to School Month sees primary school pupils from across the UK join forces with children in more than 40 countries worldwide to celebrate the benefits of walking to school. According to latest research from Living Streets, the UK charity for everyday walking behind the initiative, whilst 92 per cent of pensioners and 81 per cent of today’s parents walked to primary school when they were children, just 47 per cent of trips to and from school by primary school children are now made on foot. Doctors recommend that children should get a minimum of 60 minutes of physical activity every day. Rebecca Littler, Sales & Marketing Director of London Square, said: “A large number of our developments are located within close proximity to schools so we are delighted to be supporting International Walk to School Month again this year. By offering pupils at The Falcons School for Girls a helping hand, the children will be encouraged to walk to school and can stay safe. Walking to school is a great way to encourage fitness and health amongst youngsters and we are proud to be facilitating this behaviour.” Yvonne Nelson, coordinator of the Walk to School initiative at The Falcons School for Girls, which is located near London Square Putney on Woodborough Road, said: "We strive to encourage children to walk to school throughout the year as we believe the benefits are invaluable to our pupils. We are very grateful for London Square’s support. It was wonderful to see so many pupils gathering together to participate in International Walk to School Month and we are confident that this enthusiasm will continue throughout the rest of the year."
