On Friday 17 June, 28 Year 4 girls from Richmond’s Old Vicarage School attended an art unveiling morning at The Star and Garter, the landmark development on Richmond Hill being created by London Square. The girls have recreated J.M.W. Turner’s famous painting, which immortalised the view in 1820 – a view considered so beautiful that it is the only view in England to be protected by an Act of Parliament. Prior to the unveiling, the girls spent a morning at The Star and Garter in May, taking pictures and making sketches of the view - which can be enjoyed from the development’s expansive terrace area. They were joined by local artist Anna Tikhomirova, who gave the girls expert tips on how best to create their modern interpretations of the historic painting, before completing their works at school. The paintings were on display over the weekend and a selection will soon be on display in the shop front windows of local estate agents Knight Frank and Featherstone Leigh. Mrs Karen Robinson, year 4 teacher at Old Vicarage School, commented: “Firstly, I would like to say a massive thank you on behalf of all the girls and myself for inviting us to take part in the exhibition. “This was an immensely exciting opportunity for the girls, who have all produced a unique take on Turner’s historic painting. We are grateful to London Square for the opportunity, which has not only resulted in some outstanding artwork but also given the girls a chance to explore The Star and Garter – a Richmond landmark which is close to the school. I know that the parents were delighted to be given the opportunity to view the paintings over the weekend.” London Square is transforming the historic Star and Garter to provide 86 architecturally stunning apartments and duplexes. Remaining prices start at £1.75m for a two bedroom apartment.
