London Square Founder Adam Lawrence has been awarded the RDAS Golden Brick, recognising a person who has been influential in and significantly contributed to the residential development industry.
The Residential Development Agents Society is a networking forum for the exchange of ideas between agents involved in residential development land and property. Established in 1995 it has c500 members and supports knowledge, learning and networking opportunities that advance the sector and those within it.
Following a successful career at Barratt Homes where he became Regional Chair of London and Thames Valley, Adam identified an opportunity for a well-capitalised developer to maximise the potential of the London residential property market and launched London Square.
Since launching in at the height of the recession in 2010, the business has gone from strength to strength, delivering multi-tenure mixed-use schemes including the transformation of the Star & Garter in Richmond and the former Royal Mail site in Nine Elms. In 2020, during the COVID pandemic, he also established registered provider Square Roots, which aims to deliver over 10,000 affordable homes in London in the next decade.
Today Adam provides leadership to a team of almost 300 staff at London Square, which has been under Aldar ownership since late 2023. This investment has fuelled further growth and London Square now manages a portfolio of 25 live schemes delivering over 5,600 homes (c40% affordable) across 17 London boroughs.
Adrian Owen, Head of Residential, Montagu Evans and Interim Chair of RDAS, commented “Adam’s career achievements embody everything this award celebrates and he joins an illustrious list of outstanding leaders in our sector that have between them been responsible for the delivery of a significant percentage of London’s homes. What stands out for me in particular is how Adam pivoted quickly during and just after the GFC to building a highly successful development business yet again – brave and not without risk but that embodies the man in my view.”
Sophie Wellesley-Wood, Director JLL and Chair of RDAS (maternity leave) added: “I am so glad that Adam has been recognised with this year’s Golden Brick; his entrepreneurial spirit, positivity and vision for what is possible are an inspiration for so many in the industry.”
Adam Lawrence, CEO, London Square, added “Receiving this recognition from my peers in the industry is an incredible honour. However, this award really belongs to the team that have worked so hard alongside me to make London Square what it is today. We are very privileged to have the opportunity to contribute to London’s success and I look forward to supporting everyone at London Square and Square Roots through the next chapter of our growth.”
