Fast-growing Ickenham-based residential developer London Square won four of the biggest accolades at the ‘Oscars’ of the housebuilding industry, the WhatHouse? Awards 2014. The company won three awards for its London Square Fulham development – Gold for Best House for The Pembridge and Bronze for Best Brownfield Development and Best Interior Design. It also scooped Bronze for Best Small Housebuilder.
Set beyond a grand gated arched entrance, The Pembridge, a four bedroom family home with distinctive architectural offering, is one of 40 elegant townhouses in a traditional traffic-free garden square at London Square Fulham. Designed by Assael Architecture, London Square Fulham was inspired by the Georgian symmetry of homes in famous squares, yet offers first-class specification and the latest trends in contemporary London living. The Pembridge showhome has a garden created by 2014 RHS Chelsea Gold Medal winner Jo Thompson and interiors by leading design specialists Honky Interior Design.
The WhatHouse? judges commented: “London Square has successfully held off the competition this year with its Pembridge townhouse, part of a wonderfully well-designed residential development. The judges particularly liked the external terrace and garden areas with their attractive landscaping and the central staircase with its cleverly angled hardwood treads, wood and glass balustrade and large roof light above. The huge front door, which is worthy of an award alone, and high ceilings, exceptional lighting, and creamy stone floors were also important features; in fact all the spaces were noticeably well designed with good attention to detail, even down to the doorknobs…London Square is the Candy & Candy of Fulham – creating houses for the stylish and chic crowd.”
The awards, presented by actor and comedian Rob Brydon and held at the Grosvenor House Hotel on 21 November, also saw London Square receive the Bronze Award for Best Small Housebuilder. In addition to completed developments at Shoreditch, Wimbledon Village and Ruislip, London Square has nine other sites underway as part of its new target of building 1,000 homes a year; following a £1.6billion expansion backed by Ares Management earlier this year. Among the current projects is a development of eight apartments and 18 houses in the heart of Teddington, as well as the restoration and conversion of the historic Grade II listed Star and Garter on Richmond Hill.
The judges commented: “London Square has come an awfully long way in four short years and with fresh private equity backing is only going to get considerably bigger and stronger. Its London sales work out at an average of more than £1,000 a square foot – testimony to the quality of the product, finding the right locations and delivering stylish architecture on bespoke schemes. It is not just high end homes either, with prices starting from £250,000. It might be that the best and most defining scheme is yet to come, as London Square restores and converts a London landmark – the historic Royal Star & Garter Home.”
Rebecca Littler, Sales & Marketing Director of London Square, said: “We are delighted to receive this excellent recognition for our highly talented and hardworking team. In just over four years we have built a business from scratch – specialising in the delivery of homes at all levels of the London market in areas where people want to live. Fulham is a prime example of this – not only does the development appeal to those looking for a family home in the capital, surrounded by good schools and green areas, but also those after a central base that offers easy access into the West End or the City. It is no wonder that the development is now over 75 per cent sold off plan.”
