A key feature of the development is the creation of a new public square, commercial spaces and 240
homes - a new gateway to Croydon Town Centre.
The development is scheduled for completion by March 2024, and we are delighted to offer a commission to an artist or artist collective, to deliver a work of public art that explores the theme of community and belonging. The intention of the commissioned artwork is to change people's sense of place and ways of seeing the world around them, to look up, see their neighbourhood anew, and foster ways to engage with the built and natural environment.
We are seeking an artist, curator, or producer to develop a proposal for an original, high quality, accessible public artwork, which would provide opportunities for interaction and activity. The total maximum budget of the project is £100,000. The brief is open to interpretation by the artist/s however, all interpretations must demonstrate a connection to Croydon's diverse and thriving community.
The ideal artwork will be a stand-alone focal feature; however, artists should not feel limited as all ideas (such as seating or sculpture) will be welcomed. We are flexible with the choice of materials proposed, providing the cost of the artwork falls within the set budget, materials are durable, and maintenance requirements are minimal.
The future management and maintenance of the installation will be transferred to the appointed Estates Management Company for the site.
